Yipee! You have new pictures here again! When I lived in Spain I so much liked the ruins that I saw there sometimes. There was one in particular, to wich I often walked - high up on a hill with a splendid view... But years lates when I thought of it, I thought that maybe these houses were destroyed in the war. Then the ruins didn´t feel quite as attractive any more...
This particular small town looks like it stopped in time. with a wonderful view and very close to the sea...i think you would like it. Mostly older people living there with an elderly couple with an old market shop but with very little in it. A huge palace quinta which was the center of life at one point and where now they film soap operas as they were doing last Saturday.
I visit your other blog quite regularly and only recently stumbled upon this one. I've loved perusing these fast disappearing little visual snippets and aspects of the lifestyle of Saloios - such a shame that the term Saloio is mostly used in a pejorative manner these days. I'm very familiar with Picanceira and the surrounding area and you're absolutely spot on when you describe it. I especially love the old terraced houses which are currently being restored and confess to secretly coveting that Quinta! I had no idea it was used as a telenovela on-set location!
Please do keep up this very interesting challenge - I've been inspired!
For three years now I have called myself a saloia, yet I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and my parents are from the northern region of Portugal called Minho. Saloia refers to a perimeter of area around Lisbon which was mainly agricultural and provided cityfolk with produce or services such as laundry. In short, it was the rural way of life.
My challenge is to discover with a point and shoot camera and through one image per day for one year, saloia, even if it is just to know where it is I have rooted myself for now.

uma encantadora aldeia na estrada entre Mafra e Torres Vedras...que passa em Encarnação...uma paz.
Yes, I think too I would love it the way you describe it :)
Now I am off to paint teeths on a portrait(very difficult getting it exactly right; nuance, shape...)
